Malang High School Solar Project and Madura Boarding School Solar Project

A solar cell (or a”photovoltaic”cell) is a device that converts photons from the sun ( solar light ) into electricity. The Renewable Energy Utilization Program (REU) is a support program that was established to achieve energy sovereignty in Indonesia. Energy sovereignty is a necessity to reduce our dependence on fossil energy, especially those from oil and coal. This program also becomes a PLTS learning laboratory for students and the wider community. The PLTS program in Pondok Annuqayah Islamic Boarding School, with a capacity of 30.72 kWp, can support 40% of the electricity needs of the school while for Malang State Public High School is 15.36 kWp and able to reduce electricity bill from Rp 6 million to Rp 3 million.

This PLTS program is a CSR program carried out by PT Paiton Energy for the wider community that collaborates with the Economic Business Initiative Community (IBEKA) as a technical expert in this program. The PLTS program at SMA Negeri 8 was inaugurated on January 30, 2018 by the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture and attended by former Paiton Energy CFO and Finance Director, Mr. Syakib Bafagih, former PT PLN Managing Director Nur Pamuji, Malang Mayor Moch Anton, Chairperson of Malang People Representatives, and Malang UM Chancellor. PLTS at Pondok Annuqayah Sumenep was inaugurated on March 5, 2018 by the Sumenep Regent A. Busyro Karim and attended by former Paiton Energy Director Mr. Syakib, IBEKA Director Mrs. Tri Mumpuni and the representatives of the Islamic boarding school Annuqayah.
